A hand-rebound edition of V.E. Schwab's The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue, bound in book cloth with the trees and a French letter of the period laser-engraved into the cloth behind the design. The title, the rules, and the constellation are gold. Seven stars carry across both boards: Addie's freckles, the constellation Estele called a witch's mark, the one thing about her no one forgets.
The front board looks back to Villon. The back board looks to New York, three hundred years later, where the same stars stand over the same girl. Where a blurb would sit, the book says only I remember you. Inside, the endpapers reproduce View in the Woods by Johannes Warnardus Bilders, and the bookplate is made out to Adeline LaRue. Her name is going.
She's built to be held and read, not shut away. No deal with the devil required.
